I acted as Puisne Judge from April 1887 to February 1889 and from the latter date to March 1890. I acted as Attorney General. Again from June 1891 to March 1892 and from July 1892 to December 1892 I acted as Attorney General. In these capacities I have served the Government for an aggregate period of about four years.
I was also Secretary for some years to the Law Revision Commission which has now ceased to exist and ever since I have edited for the Government editions of the local Ordinances.
In 1888 I was a successful candidate for the post of Puisne Judgeship whilst holding the acting appointment and Sir William Des Voeux in acknowledging and promising to forward my application kindly wrote "I am glad to be able to say that the manner in which you have performed the duties of the post has given complete satisfaction.
In 1889 I again applied for the appointment of Attorney General and in April 1891 Sir William des Voeux kindly forwarded an application from me for a legal appointment in the Colonial Service and by preferring the service of this Colony.
I feel assured that if His Excellency should desire it His Honour the Chief Justice would be glad to testify to my capability for office.
